Murphy Oil USA Gas Stations and Eaton Testing Public EV Charging Stations

Murphy Oil USA Gas Stations and Eaton Testing Public EV Charging StationsEaton Corporation and Murphy Oil USA have teamed up to test electric vehicle charging stations. The test will take place at a Tennessee Murphy Oil station, where the companies hope to educate consumers and help them overcome “range anxiety.” Eaton will supply DC Quick Chargers for use in the test. The quick charger can recharge an EV battery pack to about 80% of its capacity in 25 minutes or less. If the test goes well, the companies may expand the program to more of Murphy Oil USA’s 1,000 retail fuel stations throughout the Midwest and South.

The venture hopes to attract electric vehicle drivers to traditional gas stations where they can take advantage of fast, safe electric vehicle charging. The pilot project is part of Murphy Oil USA’s commitment to encouraging the use of innovative, affordable green fuel technologies. According to auto industry estimates, consumers will purchase about 400,000 electric vehicles annually by 2020.
